Listen, Learn and Talk about Music!
Discover and discuss all sorts of new music in a fun group class
(a really enjoyable class in music appreciation, open to everyone from teen-age to old-age)
This group class is a great way to learn about music and to develop your knowledge of a vast variety of different styles and cultures, everything from Classical, Jazz, Electronic, Dance, R&B etc... etc... you name it! We will look at traditional music from many different countries and perhaps most importantly, music being created in Ireland right now!
Every week the group will listen to, discuss and learn about as much music as can be crammed into the class. The goal is to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of many types of music, from the subtleties of composition, the history of it's development and the power of performance and most importantly to get talking about this fantastic Art form.
You don't need to play an instrument, you don't need to read music.
You just need to Enjoy it!
Creative Music Composition
Learn to write the music you hear and have it performed
(A class in Composing music for real and unreal instruments)
This is a very special class offering participants the opportunity to learn about many different kinds of composers and their techniques, in a practical way. In this class we will look at many different styles and genres of music, and their different considerations. We will also look at practical music theory and the specifics of writing music for acoustic instruments and objects you might find lying around your house!
At the end of the term each class member will be given the opportunity to write music for a small group of professional musicians and have their music performed and recorded. This is a unique opportunity for any aspiring composer and one that shouldn't be missed.
While participants are not required to play an instrument, access to a keyboard instrument is recommended. A basic understanding of musical notation is required.
Music Improvisation
For musicians to develop their skills, and make great music NOW
(a class for musicians from all genres looking to develop their performance skills in a great environment)
Improvisation is a fun and highly creative way for musicians to develop their performance ability and gain the confidence to create music of their own in a great environment. It is the art of creating music on the spot, which is a useful tool for musicians regardless of genre. Students in each group will learn to develop their musical ideas through various different styles of music and will be instructed in musicality, aesthetics, composition, musical vocabulary, rehearsal techniques and lots more.
Learning to improvise is important for every musician. It is a means of communicating musically with others and it can be learnt by performers at any level of their development. This class is open to anyone who can sing or play an instrument and has a desire for creative musical freedom.
The course is also open to pre-formed groups.
